On 31st March this year, Groupe CAT announced their acquisition of the remaining 50% of Carlson Vehicle Transfer (CVT), making Groupe CAT 100% owner. Through the Carlson acquisition, Groupe CAT now has two fully owned subsidiaries in the UK, in CVT and CAT UK Services. Both Carlson and Groupe CAT will now benefit from a stronger presence in the UK vehicle logistics industry.
CAT UK and Carlson already work together in the UK, but will now be able to further coordinate our services to provide our customers with a complete finished vehicle logistics solution.
Carlson Acquisition
Carlson’s relationship with Groupe CAT began in 2011, when Carl Richardson, founder of Carlson Vehicle Transfer, sold 50% of his shares in the company to Groupe CAT. The acquisition of the remaining 50% shares in March, makes Groupe CAT the 100% owner of the vehicle transfer company. Steve Reynolds, the previous Operations Director at CVT, has now been appointed as Managing Director, while Carl Richardson will continue an association with CVT and Groupe CAT.

Carlson Vehicle Transfer is a specialist vehicle transfer company, established in 1997 by Carl Richardson, who started out with just one transporter. Since then, Carl has built up the company which now operates a fleet of 150 transporters across the UK. CVT is well know in the industry as a provider of quality services with a relatively young fleet, proved by their low damage rate. Carlson operate from a range of strategic locations across the UK, covering all of England and Wales and branching out into Scotland.
The range of services offered by Carlson include:
- Volume distribution: inter-compound, plant clearance, rental companies and dealer deliveries
- Commercial vehicles
- Auction movement – collections and re-delivery
- Rental company movements
- Managed contract hire vehicles
The commitment of Carlson Vehicle Transfer to all staff, customers and partners will be supported by Groupe CAT’s sustainable growth and investment strategies, while CVT will continue to honour all existing agreements.
