Coast to Coast Day 2 – Crossing the Lake District
9 hours 52 minutes on the move!
32 miles travelled
It’s Day 2 of Russel Gallacher’s epic journey Coast to Coast raising money for PTSD Resolution taking him through the Lake District. The first day of the walk was hard, after a sleepless night before setting off, the team were met with several steep inclines and rocky cliffs. Starting off on Day 2, the team were tired but ready to make progress!
The Route – The Lake District
Waking up in the beautiful Lake District, Russel and everyone walking with him at least had amazing views for inspiration to get going on Day 2.
Using a geotagging hiking app, Ramblr, Russel can record the exact route taken, including altitude changes, speed and total distance traveled. The Lake District is England’s biggest National Park, known for the area’s picturesque lakes, forests and mountains, which played a huge part in influencing the ‘Lakes Poets’, William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge and Robert Southey and authors including Beatrix Potter. Now a World Heritage Site, the Lakes are a popular destination for holiday makes, Glampers and dedicated walkers alike.
Walking with Russel on Day 2 were a group of colleagues from RMS, CAT UK’s HR partner, who have also been separately fundraising for PTSD Resolution for personal reasons. Also joining Russel on Day 2 was Ian Bradley from CAT UK’s Southampton centre. Ian has been involved with several charity events whilst with CAT and has committed to walking three days with the team on the Coast to Coast.
While the rest of CAT UK in the South carried on in the pouring rain, the Coast to Coast team at least escaped the worst of the weather in the morning, being able to enjoy the spectacular views of the Lake’s famous landscape with only some cloud cover.
Coast to Coast – Day 2
Now at the end of the second day, there are still well over 100 miles left to go before reaching the finish point at Robin Hood’s Bay on Friday. Everyone at CAT UK wishes Russel and the team an enjoyable trip and good weather to get to the end. And remember, Russel is raising money for an extremely worthy cause. The UK based charity PTSD Resolution looks after veterans and their families struggling with PTSD. To donate, visit Russel’s Just Giving page by clicking here.
